Express Yourself

Have you ever looked at someones nails and you could already make an assumption at what kinda person they are? I know we're not supposed to judge the book by the cover but sometimes the cover tells you what to expect from the book. And do you ever remember at school that you could tell which social group a person belongs to because of the color of their nails? (e.g. black nail varnish was associated with the goths, pink was associated with 'those girl', cliche right?)

Well personally i LOVE painting my nails! For me they are another way to express myself and the kinda person i am when i'm feeling lazy with getting dressed up. Time of year doesn't really affect the color i paint my nails it usually just depends on my mood at the current moment i remove my bag filled with may colors. Above you can see the collection of nail colors an designs i have had since the last 3 years.

Experimenting with various colors and patterns adds a flavor of you to your nails that even if imitated by others will never be same because it was created by you for you.

I found some examples of unique nail art from various users on fashionista.com that if you have chance you should check out if you're ever looking for inspiration or just to appreciate how others are expressing themselves.

Below are just some pictures i found on the interweb that i thought looked interesting and will hopefully inspire me in the future.

Azealia Banks- straight up M.A.C-ing

Miss Azealia '212' Banks has been shaking up the music industry with her unique style of witch-hop (which to my understanding is a genre consisting of hip hop and house predominantly done by females, hence the 'witch').

Her no hold bars lyrics and effortless flow are the icing to the cake that make Azealia a force to be reckoned with, not only by female lyricists but also the fellas have to watch out too (ask Jim Jones!!).

Her style is as sharp as her lyrics making her a fashion inspiration in my eyes. And it seems like i'm not the only one who's noticed as M.A.C has created a lipstick in her honor rightly named after her alter ego 'Young Rapunxel'. It's deep plum in color (kinda reminds me of a gothic/ vampire/ lady of the night type). Its available online from the 5th September pricing at $15, then it will be available from the 6th- 20th September at the New York M.A.C store. When it'll reach over the Atlantic i'm not entirely sure but will keep you posted.

Her style can also be seen in her videos for the songs on her "1991" EP; Liquorice channeling her all American spirit, Van Vogue showing you can be powerful yet feminine in a pant suit, and 1991 taking you back to the good ol' days.

Let me know what you think.

Take a Bow...

I have a confession to make... I have difficulties walking in heels :(

By heels i mean stiletto's and heels which which basically don't help the problem that i already have with gravity. The only shoes with height i trust myself to walk in without looking too much of a fool would be Wedges or Platforms due to the fact that i get the height i desire without the fear of toppling over in a horrendous way.

I just wanted to share the wedges i got from my bud Piwa (http://fashionispoetic.blogspot.co.uk/) for my birthday, bought from Linzi.

So i'm not a big fan of pink, but in my defense it Fuchsia ;) They took me a few try's to get used to them as they are higher than my usual but they comfy considering they're open toe.

Below is a little collage of how/ what i would wear with these particular heels :)

Let me know what i should wear with my new shoes :) All opinions welcome :)

Birthday Milestones

So I celebrated the big 21 in a little way in London (also known as the fashion capital). Because it was such a special occasion I decided to dress to kill :)

I got the dress from a shop in Finsbury Park. I can't remember which one but if you really wanna know which one let me know and I'll find out. I added a black waist belt I got on eBay just to give the dress a bit more shape.
Finished it up with my new favourite wedged heel from H&M. I'm not sure if they're still selling it cause i bought it a few months ago on a whim.
The bag i've had since i was 18. Bought it from ASDA for a friends wedding and its been a life saver since then.

Make up was false eyelashes, grey metallic smoky eyed look, and red lipshtick to complete the look.

I've got a Pocketful of Pretty Green...

The eyes are the window to your soul...

That is how the saying goes. Well if you want to try a change (like i did) why not try contact lenses??

So i'll just start by explaining the contacts i got. If you want me to explain in detail what to look for when you're purchasing your own contact lenses, let me know.

So, my original eye color is brown/borderline black (as shown below).

Nothing wrong with my original eye color, they beautiful as they are. But i thought i'd experiment. So i decided to look for contact lenses and came across various websites. I settled on www.coloured-contacts-hut.com which sells a variety of color contact lenses for all occasions and preferences at a reasonable price (if you're not aware of it now, i LOVE a good deal)!

I settled on a pair of green 'MesmerEyez' which cost £9.99 plus free postage and packaging if you don't mind waiting 1-3 days. The postage price increases if you want next day or the next day before 1pm. But to be honest, i ordered mine on Saturday and received them on Tuesday morn, which is still pretty fast.

So once i received them, the pack included the duration i can wear the contact lenses and the color.  Prior to opening the box i made sure (as you do) that i got the contact lenses i ordered in the correct size. What i like about these particular contacts is that they come in pairs, whereas most come in singles, costing more.

So i ensured i had the right contacts, i opened the box, washed my hands thoroughly and dried them with a paper towel. You have to make sure your hands are clean so you don't infect your eyes (i can also explain more about contact lenses if you please).

Once i was ready i inserted them and i was on my way!

The colour came up much brighter than i expected and i'm growing to love them. I'll try and wear them everyday and see how it goes!

N3rd Invasion!

These are not only a necessity... but a statement accessory!

Prior to these glasses i had the 'regular' rectangular shape which didn't really compliment my inner/outer persona.
But my new frames (bought from LensWay.com) give the perception of a smart cookie, whilst at the same time being bang on trend!

I'd recommend them if you're brazen and bold enough to give them a go.

If like me you wear prescription glasses, try before you buy in your local optician or if you're worried about being harassed whilst there by the friendly, but sometimes overbearing, sales person try the joke shops or Primark or Claire's Accessories just to get an idea of whether they'll suit you.

Once you decide to buy them, you can either get them at your local optician or you can get them online (where you can get more of a variety for a lower price than the high street), but ONLY if you know the specification of you glass prescription.

If you want me to do another post with information on my opinion of the best websites for purchasing frames and what not, and another post with the information that you'll need when purchasing specs online, let me know.

Awkard Fashionista: Introduction

Howdy there!

Just thought i'd begin by saying welcome to AWKWARD FASHIONISTA.

Why Awkward Fashionista?

- The answer is simple... i hope. In all honesty, i'm not a die hard fan of fashion as some. But i do LOVE finding statement items or just interesting pieces and creating a complete look. These items i find near and far so as soon as i find them i'll try and blog them asap with the location i got them from.
I'll also be blogging any other fashion related items such as websites, vlogs, or blogs that i find interesting and peak my interest because 'sharing is caring' :)
Oh, and finally i'll also be featuring people in my life that inspire me with their style.

Much Love x
